ThunderHill Farm is the living dream of Kiri Torgler and Glenn Young. After decades living in the city, we made our way to family land in Northern Wisconsin and to ThunderHill Farm. Here we are building a permaculture based, organic orchard and gardens with a small flock of heritage birds to share with our community. We then take our organically grown produce and we create amazing fruit & vegetable sauces to share with you. We also make the worlds best caramel sauce!
We believe that organically grown, healthy, natural food should be accessible to everyone. We also believe that knowledge is power and everyone should learn to grow their food. We make amazing, nourishing foods and are working on learning opportunities for you and your family. Try our fruit & vegetable sauces to taste the difference between the typical jams and our fresh new interpretations.
When we say our products are handmade, we are not joking. Kiri builds these sauces from seed as an organic gardener. All our produce is organically grown, raised and harvested. We pour all our love into our sauces and people can taste it. We have everything from sweet to savory, sugar free and Keto options as well as the classics. Who doesn't love caramel sauce ??

At ThunderHill Farm we only use the proper canning jars for water bath canning for our products. We want to make sure that your products are safely shelf-stable for your future use. The use of the proper canning jars for canning is important for several reasons:
1. Safety: Proper canning jars are designed to withstand the high temperatures and pressure involved in the canning process. Using inappropriate jars can lead to breakage or seal failure, which can compromise the safety of your ThunderHill Farm products.
2. Seal Integrity: Canning jars come with specific lids & sealing mechanisms designed to create a vacuum seal during the canning process. Using jars with mismatched or ill-fitting lids can result in improper sealing, leading to spoilage or contamination.
3. Durability: Canning jars are made from tempered glass that is resistant to thermal shock, making them less likely to crack or break when exposed to extreme temperatures. Using jars not intended for canning may result in breakage during processing or storage.
4. Uniformity: Canning jars typically have standardized sizes and shapes, allowing for efficient packing and storage of preserved foods. Using jars of varying sizes or shapes may lead to inefficient use of space and difficulty in stacking or organizing your products.
5. Longevity: Proper canning jars are designed for long-term storage of preserved foods. They are resistant to staining, odors, and corrosion, ensuring that your ThunderHill Farm products remain safe & delicious for an extended period.
6. Regulatory Compliance: ThunderHill Farm’s use of approved canning jars helps ensure compliance with these regulations .
Overall, using proper canning jars is essential for ensuring the safety, quality, and longevity of your ThunderHill Farm’s products. Proper cleaning and sterilization of canning jars are crucial steps to ensure safety of your products. Here's a step-by-step guide:
1. Disassembly: Disassemble the jars by removing the lids, rings, and any other detachable parts.
2. Pre-Wash: Wash the jars, lids, and rings in warm, soapy water to remove any dirt, debris, or residual food. Use a clean sponge or cloth to scrub both the inside and outside of the jars thoroughly.
3. Rinse: Rinse the jars, lids, and rings with clean, hot water to remove any soap residue.
4. Sterilization Options:
a. Boiling Method: Submerge the jars, lids, and rings in a large pot filled with water. Ensure that the jars are fully submerged and there is enough water to cover them by at least an inch. Bring the water to a boil and let it boil for at least 10 minutes to sterilize the jars. Remove the jars using sterilized tongs or a jar lifter and let them air dry on a clean surface.
b. Dishwasher Method: Place the jars, lids, and rings in the dishwasher and run a hot water cycle with detergent. Use the sanitize setting if available. Once the cycle is complete, remove the jars while they are still hot and let them air dry on a clean surface.
c. c. Oven Method: Preheat the oven to 225°F (107°C). Place the jars, lids, and rings on a baking sheet or oven-safe tray and place them in the oven for at least 20 minutes to sterilize. Use oven mitts to remove the hot jars from the oven and let them cool on a clean surface.
5. Handling: Avoid touching the interior of the jars, lids, or rings with your hands after sterilization to prevent contamination. Use sterilized tongs or utensils to handle the sterilized items.
6. Storage: Store the sterilized jars, lids, and rings in a clean, dry place until ready to use for canning.
By following these steps, you can effectively clean and sterilize your canning jars for safe reuse in your canning process. Remember to inspect the jars for any cracks or defects before each use and discard any damaged ones to ensure the safety of your products.
